“Come on, Kyrie, and put on your jacket so we can go,” Tiana told Kyrie after expressing how much fun she had to Zeldah and Dash and thanked them for their good hospitality. We were standing at their front door, with my brother and Nola, who had also called for Londyn to come on. The twin’s party was over, and we were getting ready to head home.

I had to admit, it was good getting out of the house and hanging with others outside of Dink, Nola, and sometimes Tony and his girlfriend, Sherry. As I stated, my bond with Dash had grown and seeing that his wife and Tiana got along good was a good thing. Yeah, he and my brother were cool as well, but because we were more of the laid-back type and had similar ways, we were a lot closer than them, just like Tony was a lot closer to my brother.

“We have to get up again, soon, Zel, girl,” Nola said. “We’re hitting up the mall tomorrow if you want to come.”

“Yeah, that’ll be fine. I don’t go back to work until Tuesday since Valentine is Monday. So, that’s good with me.”

“Mama, Ti… Can I stay a little while longer?” Kyrie asked Tiana as he and all the kids ran up front.

“Boy, nawl, you can’t stay,” I blurted out before Tiana could say anything. Of course, I knew she was going to say no, but sometimes Tiana was too damn nice and talked to him like he was only two. Don’t get it twisted; I wasn’t at all mean to my son, but at the end of the day, he was a boy, and they required tough love. “Get your coat and come on.”

“Man…” He sucked his teeth and did as I said.

Dash’s middle daughter, on the other hand, asked why he couldn’t stay. His oldest child didn’t care one way or the other. She was too busy making her tik-tok videos—which the kids had been doing all day, and when they weren’t, they were playing games and running through the house.

“Because his daddy said he couldn’t. You a girl anyway, you know damn well boys can’t stay here with you.” Dash told her, giving her evil eyes, causing everybody to laugh.

“Bae, they’re only kids. What are they going to do?” When Zeldah asked that, me, Dash, and Dink’s heads shot toward her. We didn’t say anything, but the expression on our faces said a lot. “Whatever, ya’ll asses are just nasty.”

Everybody laughed when she said that.

After saying our goodbyes and the women making plans to get up later, we left.

Inside the car, Tiana made herself comfortable in her seat and said, “I cannot wait to get home and get in the tub. I just want to relax and then go to bed.”

Reaching over, I placed my hand on her thigh as I asked, “Can I get in with you?”

“Bae…” She glanced in the back seat at Kyrie, who I saw out my rearview mirror, wasn’t paying us any attention.
