After getting out of the shower, I lay across the bed for a second and then got up. True enough, I was tired, but sleep just couldn’t find me. I didn’t know whether it was because we were in a totally new place or because the wheels in my head wouldn’t stop turning. Seemed that I couldn’t get right. Finally, I got up and walked through the house, just to check it out. I slowly peeked into every room, and they were all nicely decorated. Which is what made me wonder if he had a woman.

Casanova had taste and knew how to dress, but I knew it was different than decorating a whole house. Finally, I got to two double doors, which I assumed was a game room or theater or something, so I peeked inside. Casanova was lying on this massive bed with his back against the headboard. He only had on pajama pants and a wife-beater.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t want anything. I just couldn’t sleep, and I decided to walk around.” I tried to quickly close the door, but his booming voice caused me to stop before I could get the door completely shut.

“Come here, beautiful.”

I slowly opened the door as he stood up from the bed.

“You need me to get you anything to help you sleep? Have you eaten since your break earlier?” he asked, and I could tell that he was honestly concerned.

“No, I kind of lost my appetite when I got home. My plan was to eat, but I couldn't after seeing my baby daddy fucking another woman in the bed that I sleep in. I’m okay.”

“What are your favorite snacks?” he asked, quickly changing the subject.

I was ashamed to say.

“Promise me you won’t think I’m weird.” I looked up at him and smiled.

He gave me a slight smirk. I hardly ever saw him smile.

“Must be some weird ass shit if you got to ask me that. I won’t think you’re weird, shorty. I know y’all have cravings,” he said and held up his pinky finger like a kid.

That caused me to giggle, but I connected my pinky with his.

“Melted peanut butter with green grapes, strawberries, and Ritz crackers.”

He smiled and shook his head. “Go ahead and get in the bed. I’ll be back.”

I wanted so badly to ask him where he was going and whether he thought it was a good idea to be there alone. Instead of questioning him, I turned on my heels and was about to open the door. I winced in pain as soon as his hand touched my shoulder. He didn’t do it hard, but it had been bothering me since Christmas.

“I don’t think you understood me when I told you to go get in the bed.”

My heart began to race. Nova’s tone of voice had me on edge. It wasn’t that I thought he was about to do something to hurt me. It was just the seriousness in his tone that threw me off. He was just laughing and talking with me, then everything changed.
