Return to the LORD, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishing.

Cyril brought the truth into the complicated situations he faced in churches. Even Christians could be misled by bad ideas and false teachings. Cyril passionately set things right again. During Cyril’s life, Christians were being persecuted. Many Christians chose to die rather than to worship false gods. But other Christians weren’t as strong, and they worshipped the false gods. Later, when they tried to repent, a few churches said these weaker Christians couldn’t be forgiven. Cyril knew that they were wrong, and he declared that those churches were teaching lies. “Jesus is forgiving,” Cyril said, “and Jesus gives second chances.” After all, Saint Peter himself had denied Jesus, and Jesus forgave him!
