Step 5
Ask for Help
The fifth step has been perhaps the most difficult for me. I come from a family that encourages independence. However, as I have been seeking higher consciousness, I have realized that my independence is rooted not in strength, but in fear. I have come to believe that it takes great courage to make oneself vulnerable enough to ask others for help, and while I pride myself in my courage, I realize that I am not as courageous as I thought.
We will focus on three traits that can support us in asking for help: giving ourselves permission to need others, allowing ourselves our imperfections, and releasing toxic guilt from our psyches.
Before you read any further, take some time to do this Vulnerability Profile. It will assist you in uncovering where your strengths are, and where there are opportunities for you to allow yourself to become more vulnerable. In doing so, you will further declut ter your mind, attract more abundance, and create greater ease and intimacy in your life.
Vulnerability Profile
It takes great courage to be vulnerable. In fact, keeping your heart open and being daring enough to ask others for help takes great fortitude. Answer the questions below. Doing so will show you how willing you are to expose your heart and allow others to support you. For each of the questions below, take care to pause and ask your deepest self for the truth. Then choose the number that most closely aligns to your situation (1 being “not at all” and 10 being “a great deal”).
