LANDFILL IN TORNE VALLEY

Before long, you’ll begin your climb to Torne View, another terrific spot. While the views here are slightly less expansive than at the previous overlook, there is little development to mar the vista. Just beyond, you may notice a junction with the black-on-white-blazed Raccoon Brook Hills Trail (the blazes are painted on the rocks), but continue ahead on the blue-on-white-blazed Seven Hills Trail, which descends to a valley, then crosses a small hill to a second valley. Here, just before reaching the bottom, you’ll reach a junction with the white-blazed Reeves Brook Trail.

Turn left here and follow the white blazes downhill, steeply in places, for the last 1.4 miles of the hike. The woods are mostly open, but there are interesting rock outcrops along the way. For most of the way, you’ll parallel Reeves Brook, and if the water level is high, you may notice some lovely cascades in the stream. Finally, you’ll reach a junction with the red-on-white-blazed Pine Meadow Trail. Turn left, and almost immediately you’ll see the visitor center ahead and be back at your car.
