The Duplicant

Scientists have begun the study of mapping the human brain and ‘creating’ memories via experimentation using the portion of our brain known as the hippocampus.

Also…

Studies have been conducted to test the viability of storing human memories indefinitely.

Using such methods, it’s possible one day we’ll be able to erase the memories we don’t want, store the ones we need for later, and perhaps even create memories of things that never happened.

Now suppose you were in a car accident.

You were rendered comatose for five years.

You were declared brain-dead.

But…before the accident, you had all your memories stored in a computer. And upon waking in a stupor from your coma, these memories were successfully re-installed into your brain.

Is the person waking up from the coma you? Or not you?
