Each section of System Preferences contains many different settings. It can be easy to remember that there is a setting for something, but not know where to look to find it. The search field in System Preferences lets you locate settings by name.

For instance, suppose you remember there is a way to change how the scroll bars work, but you don’t know where in System Preferences it is located. Just search for “scrollbar” and it will show you.



Note that the search function is far from perfect. If you search for “hide” to see where you can hide the menu bar, the General settings aren’t in the results even though that is where you can find it.
