Skipping
Skipping can be traced back to 1600 AD when the Egyptians used vines for jumping over. We also know that hoops were used for early forms of skipping. Skipping with ropes can be traced back to at least the eighteenth century.
Skipping is an excellent form of activity for all ages. Not only is it cheap and easy to learn but skipping for just ten minutes a day keeps us healthy, develops our bone and muscle strength as well as improving our flexibility and cardio fitness. It helps children develop their balance, co-ordination and rhythm.
There are three basic styles of skipping:
Individual skipping
Long rope skipping with two people turning the ends
Double Dutch skipping in which two ropes are turned in opposite directions.
