Minimize the Choices
An example I use with prospective clients: âLetâs chat by phone this week. Send me what time you are available tomorrow.â This is far more effective than, say, âWould you like to chat by phone this week?â This tool becomes far more important and effective during emotionally charged situations. By minimizing the amount of choices you give someone, you maximize the chances of getting to your intended outcome.
Practice by writing your sentence, and if a question mark belongs at the end of it, rephrase it as a statement. Inject assertiveness into every text and e-mail. Once this becomes routine, incorporate it into your speaking style, as well. âLetâs go for a drink! See you at Lobster Bar at 7 p.m.â Voila.
