Volunteer Visa

You could also establish resident status in Belize through a volunteer visa, which is granted to those coming to Belize to assist a registered charity or to do unpaid social work. A recognized local charity organization must sponsor your application.

You cannot work for pay in Belize while resident on this visa.

Work Permit

To work for pay in Belize you need a work permit, permanent residency, or citizenship. Work permits are issued usually through one of two processes—either a local company offers you employment and then applies on your behalf or you submit an application for temporary self-employment (working for your own Belizean company).

There is no guarantee that you will be issued a work permit, especially if you are applying to do a job that a Belizean could be trained to do.

You must renew your work permit every year. After you have been issued a second work permit (that is, after your first renewal), you can use that status as a basis to apply for permanent residency.
