After my morning swim and shower, I sat down at my desk to start my work day. Each morning, I would click through the numbers from our websites and take a look at the subscriber and download numbers, just to make sure nothing had taken an unexpected turn. That day, when I hit refresh on my browser and the new numbers popped up, I could only stare at them in disbelief.

“That can’t be right.” Muttering to myself, I hit refresh again, but the numbers didn’t change. They were almost ten times higher than usual, and our usual days weren’t too bad at all.

An app on my screen connected me to Erica in a matter of seconds. “Are you seeing these numbers?” she asked gleefully as soon as her face appeared. Working out of her home office didn’t stop her from dressing up just in case she needed to be seen. While I had on my yoga pants and a t-shirt, she wore a white suit with a yellow camisole beneath it, looking suitably sunny for the bright California morning. All traces of the previous day’s rainstorm had blown away and the skies were blue and full of promise.

“I thought it must be a glitch with the website,” I admitted, taking a sip of my herbal tea as I clicked back over to the screen with the numbers on it. “It’s for real?”

“Very real,” she assured me. “Your big-budget full-length film just got a lot more real too.”

The budget for my new film had been a constant bone of contention between us. I wanted it to look just as good as any Hollywood film but Erica wanted to keep costs down. With this sudden influx of income, my arguments just got a lot more compelling.

I could only think of one thing that had changed from the day before to that morning that might account for the difference, but it seemed so unlikely that I had to ask for verification. “Is this really all because of that video?”

Erica nodded as I switched my view back to her. “People are eating it up! I spent fifteen minutes scrolling through my social media apps this morning and I must have come across it twenty times with different people reposting it and commenting on it. That means people who have never seen you before are looking you up and ending up on our site. This isn’t even the half of it, Laina. We won’t find out about increases in our films on other sites until the end of the month, and even on our site, those numbers only go to midnight Eastern time last night. Tomorrow morning, be prepared for an even bigger spike.”

What would Dorian think of that, I wondered? Inadvertently, he’d given me a ton of free exposure, which meant even more people would be watching me have sex.

What would his mother think of it?

Not that I cared about that, I reminded myself as soon as the thought crossed my mind. Impressing mothers
