At the top of the screen you will see a small tab that says Screen Options. If you click on this tab a menu will appear. In this menu you have the ability to turn on and off different functions that are available to you. In this tab you can decide whether or not to allow comments.

Widgets

What in the world is a widget?

Well, widgets are similar to plugins in that they are small snippets of code that will perform a specific function on your WordPress website. To find your available widgets you need to go under the appearance tab and then widgets.

Once in the widgets area you will see a listing of all the available widgets available to you. Next to that you will see the different segmented sections of your specific theme. In order to use a widget all you need to do is locate the section of the theme you want the widget to appear, say the Footer for example. Once you have decided where you want your widget all you need to do is find the widget you want to use, say the calendar, click and hold the left mouse button over the widget and drag it over to the section you want it to appear. Once you have done this let go and the widget will appear.

When it comes to widgets they will mainly appear in your blog posts. It is rare that you will have them on your pages but depending on the specific widget you may want them there as well.
