A few days later is my video interview with Harrison. I booked one of the study rooms at the campus library so I don't have to take the call from the house and risk being overheard. I'm still not ready to tell anyone yet.

I log on to the video call at our scheduled time, taking a few deep breaths as I sit in the waiting room. A minute later, the screen switches, and Harrison appears, smiling warmly. “Hello, Eden. It's good to meet you somewhat face to face.”

I laugh nervously. “Yes, you too. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me.”

“It's my pleasure. Your professors have nothing but amazing things to say about you. It's not too often I see someone your age with such drive.” His gaze softens. “Especially with the unfortunate passing of your mother. I am very sorry for your loss.”

I blink a few times in surprise. “Thank you. My mom was always extremely supportive of me and my creative passions, so pursuing a career in what I love so much just feels right.”

“I'm glad to hear that,” he says in a smooth voice. “I know you're currently located in Ottawa so I must say if you choose to accept the deal I'm about to present to you, I’d need you to relocate to Manhattan.”

My eyes widen. He's going to offer me a job already? “Oh, wow,” I stutter, trying to find coherent words. “That's—I mean, I'm still in school.”

He chuckles, and amusement twinkles in his eyes. “I understand and I'm happy to help facilitate a transfer to NYU for you to complete your education. You would of course be provided with relocation allowance and my company would cover the balance of your tuition here in New York.”

My heart pounds in my throat, and I feel caught between throwing up or passing out. Neither of which would be a great scenario in front of the man who just offered me everything. “I don't understand,” I finally say. "What is it exactly you're offering me?"

He smiles warmly. “I want you to work for my company, Eden. It would start as an internship while you finish school—paid, of course—and once you graduate you’d become an employee.”

My brows tug closer, and I lick the dryness from my lips. “You must have dozens of applicants to any job posting for your company on a daily basis,” I blurt. “I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound ungrateful. I just—This doesn't happen.”

“Take a few days and think about it. I’ll send you an email shortly with a formal offer that lays everything out. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.”

This feels too good to be true. My head is spinning, and I can't think straight. “Okay, thank you,” I force out, because what the hell else am I supposed to say right now? I've just been offered my dream job on a gold fucking platter, and quite honestly, I am likely seconds away from bursting into tears. “I look forward to your email.
