Keeping the Prayer Line Open
Do you remember why Jesus told His disciples the story of the persistent widow and the judge? Luke says he did it âto illustrate their need for constant prayer and to show them that they must keep praying until the answer comesâ (Luke 18:1 TLB).
The Lord Himself was saying we need to pray very oftenâor almost all the time. Constantly. So why donât we? If weâve been given the greatest privilege in the universe, a wide-open door to come before the Creator and the King of kings with every detail and concern of our lives, whatâs holding us back?
I think I know at least part of that answer. We often neglect to pray because we become discouraged and defeated over our failures and sins.
The author of Hebrews 12 levels a strong warning about this right in the middle of his encouragement to run a great race in life:
