Devon weaves around another pedestrian and pushes the vibrant purple e-scooter to its maximum speed. He launches past another person and the scooter gets airborne. Devon flies from the footpath onto the road parallel to the pedestrian crossing. An angry middle-aged man racing across Vivian Street shakes his fist, “Watch where you’re going you lunatic!”

Ignoring his heckler, Devon merges back onto the footpath heading up Cuba Street thinking, ‘Thank goodness the foot traffic is lighter here.’ He speeds up the footpath to the next intersection, where he dismounts and pushes the e-scooter around the corner. He places it in a stand and leaves it behind. It’s a short walk towards the café. He scans the area as he goes.

His phone vibrates and Devon taps his earbud to answer the call. “What’s happening Dani?”

“Tom’s stuck at the lights. He’s not going to make it anytime soon.”

“Damn, we need at least two people for a quick tail…” Devon starts.

“Heads up. He’s leaving the café,” Dani interrupts.

Devon moves closer to the building. He turns and looks into the window, noticing it is a dry cleaners. Angling himself to take advantage of the windows reflection. He sees the French Agent emerge from the café, softly informing, “Got him, it’s definitely Henri.”

Devon grabs his phone. He holds it up and appears to be looking deeply into the screen, while he follows the French Agents progress away from him. He snaps a couple of photos, and starts off in pursuit. Nearing the café entrance, he sees Frankie’s car, “Dani, ask Frankie and Koro to get in their car and get ready for instructions.”

“Connor’s just phoning them now. I’ve got you on speaker here.”

“Damn, he’s crossing the road. Looks like he’s heading for the side street ahead. I can’t remember the name.”

Following Devon’s progress on the big screen, Dani asks, “Footscray or Kensington? Footscray loops back on itself.”

“The one closest to Victoria Street,” Devon replies as he crosses the road quickly.

“That’s Kensington Street. It looks like it’s got a walkway through to the highway.”

Devon curses, “I’ve just made it to Kensington and he’s disappeared.”

“Frankie and Koro are in the car waiting for instructions. What do you want to do?” Dani asks.

Thinking as he walks through to the footpath by the highway, Devon scans the area. There is no sign of his quarry. “Tell them to wait for Tom and me. We could do with a lift back to the office.”
