Chapter Fifteen

"Since you were the one to negotiate with Mr. Grant of No Limits on the original contract, I think you should be the one to call him."

Ike suppressed the urge to remind Sharon that the only reason he'd done the negotiating was that no one else would step up, but everyone was pushing to get the camera program underway. Instead, he nodded and rose from his seat.

"Are you not going to finish your coffee?"

"I've had plenty. I'll let you know what I find out. I'm going to head over to see Joe before I go to the hospital."

"Matt was lucky," Sharon said. "I've spoken with several people who were there, and they all say if she hadn’t gotten in front of Matt, he'd have caught a bullet to the chest. I think that makes her something of a hero."

"She has my gratitude and that of my family, Sharon. We'll be in her debt for her act of heroism."

"I figured as much. I hope you find out how to contact her family." She swallowed the last of her coffee and stood. "And between you and me, I find it odd that she doesn't want anyone to contact her folks."

Ike shrugged, not wanting to speculate on Rylee's reasons. "I'll be talking to you. Have a good day and tell Earl I'll see him at the Cattleman's Association meeting next week. Sorry we had to delay, but this situation with Windom's death and now an attempt on Matt's life, has Joe wondering if this is tied into some decision the Association or City Council made that riled someone up."

"I know, he told me and asked if I could think of anything that would cause someone to become violent. I've racked my brain and can't think of anything."

"Me either, but I hope we can figure it out."

He put a ten-dollar bill on the table and left. His truck was parked nearby. He climbed in, rolled down his window, and pulled out his phone. Luckily, he still had the number for the No Limits office in Florida programmed in.

His call was answered on the second ring. "Good morning, No Limits. How may I direct your call?"

"This is Ike Brickman for Ian Grant."

"Let me check and see if he is available, Mr. Brickman."

Ike listened to the music that started when she put him on hold. Just as he wondered if Ian would take the call, it was answered. "Mr. Brickman, hello. I'm surprised to hear from you. I hope Rylee has everything under control there?"

"It's Rylee I'm calling about. She was shot last night trying to save someone's life in one of the local bars."

"Dear God, please tell me she survived and will recover."

"Yes, the doctors have every confidence she will make a full recovery. However, I felt it would be wise to let her family know, but we don't have contact information for her parents, and hoped you could help."

There was a long pause, so long Ike thought the call had been dropped. "Mr. Grant?"

"Yes, I apologize.
