When Cecily awoke she felt like it was Christmas, that there was something wonderful waiting for her when she opened her eyes. The boy sat inches from her, watching her. He was beautiful in the sunlight with his top hat on, his pale eyes and face shaded, the mouth vulnerable and soft.

“Good morning.”

“I still want you,” the boy said. “If you don’t want me anymore, you’ll never see me again.”

Cecily slid up into the boy’s arms. “Don’t be silly.” Then she put on her clothes, set her hair to rights, and drove Maria home.
