George Akimoto, male, Nisei, Stockton, California, incarcerated age 20, Stockton Assembly Center, Rohwer Relocation Center. George was born in Stockton, California, on November 13, 1922, the younger of two children, to Kensuke Akimoto and Tatsumi (Yamada) Akimoto. The family’s twenty-acre farm was taken care of by a neighbor while the family was incarcerated. At the Rohwer concentration camp, he created the cartoon character Lil Dan’l, which became the camp mascot and was featured in the camp journal, the Rohwer Outpost, and then later in his book, Lil Dan’l: One Year in a Relocation Center (1943). George had a notable career as a movie-poster and aviation artist.
