CHAPTER 11

Thai walked to the front door and turned around. He’d been too nervous earlier to get a good look at the place his mate had called home as a young boy. It was absolutely amazing.

The ceilings were so high… almost cathedral-like. He already knew that a person could look from the top of the spiral staircase Rose would have been giddy over if the Titanic hadn’t sunk. The floors were all wood, and original if Thai didn’t know better. He started to walk the long hall. It was a bit imposing and the oil paintings didn’t help with that. The first room to his left was fucking humongous. “Damn, I bet this place fits at least a hundred people.”

“One hundred and fifty to be exact.”

The deep English voice had Thai screaming, and whipping around to see Griz’s uncle standing there smiling.

“Oh, my gods, you about made your nephew a widower,” Thai said, trying to slow his rapidly beating heart.

A light laugh had the councilman walking into the room with him. “I’m so sorry, Thai. I saw someone coming in here and was curious as to who it might be.”

Thai held his hand out, “Hello. We kind of met on Skype. I’m Thai.”

The councilman took Thai’s hand and surprised him when he lifted it as if he was a dame at a ball and kissed the back of it. “It’s a pleasure to meet you in person, Thai. I’m Terry.”

Snorting, Thai said, “You look more like a young Pierce Brosnan.”

“I can’t say I know this Mr. Brosnan, but I do like that you see me as young,” Terry said with a smile.

“Uh… are you hitting on me? Because I have to say I’m already mated to your… uh… you know… nephew, and I am a one-bear kinda guy,” Thai said with certainty.

Terry tossed his head back and laughed, showing fangs that had Thai taking special attention.

“Oh wow, you’re a vampire,” Thai said in awe.

“And you are a…” Terry sniffed the air and smiled yet again, “…mongoose if I’m not mistaken.”

Thai shrugged, “You’re not.”

“Well, Thai, I’m surprised my nephew allowed you out of his sight long enough to sightsee,” Terry said in curiosity.

Thai couldn’t stop his show of embarrassment, as he muttered, “He’s uh… well, I guess with the trip and all he’s worn out.”

Terry laughed again, saying, “We’ll go with that, but somehow I think you are more the reason for Grizzle’s exhaustion than the trip itself.”

“Maybe,” Thai muttered.

“How about I play host and show you my home while we get to know each other?” Terry asked as he turned slightly, and indicated Thai should come along with him.

Nodding, Thai replied, “I’d like that. This place is awesome, but I fear I might need a road map to keep from getting lost.”

Terry burst out laughing again, “I might want to do that for guests in my future. Come, let me show you around.”

They walked from room to room, Terry showing Thai the multiple dens, dining area, and they even grabbed a small snack in the kitchen, the councilman earning a smack to his hand by the cook.
