In the morning, Tristan makes his way to the bakery down the street for two cups of our favorite coffee and croissants. I stand facing the closet, contemplating what to wear to the next book signing. I try not to let my nerves get the best of me.

He hands me the cup and stands by my side, both of us gazing into the tiny closet. “Wear the beige, high-waisted pants with the knotted belt and the ivory cashmere top. The cream-colored sling-backs and that Vuitton clutch would be perfect.”

I cock my head. “I’m sorry, is the book signing on Fifth Avenue?”

He grins. “Okay, forget the cashmere and the clutch. That little sleeveless turtleneck over there, same pants… and these.” He reaches for my favorite mushroom suede Stuart Weitzman heels. “Forget the clutch, just bring your tote. And wear your glasses, you look very bookish in those.”

“Okay, I’m confused, did we sleep together or are you my stylist?”

He reaches to clink our cups together but retreats at my last sentence. “Too soon to make jokes about us sleeping together.”

I crinkle my nose and nod. “Definitely too soon.”
