Fatima saw a truck kicking up dirt as it sped toward her position. She eased her rifle a few degrees to the left, sighted in the driver, and fired. The front windshield exploded in a shower of glass and red mist. The truck careened off the road into a drainage ditch and crashed.

That temporarily took care of that problem, but it also revealed her position. The rescue window was closing. Time to move.

Gunfire erupted on the balcony as Fatima refocused to check Viper’s position. She found her teammate in the middle of the firefight. She was shooting everything around her with an FX-05 Xiuhcoatl, an assault rifle used by the Mexican Armed Forces. It seemed El Draco had his own cache, and Viper had found it.

“Might as well join her,” she said.

She scoped the most threatening target and fired.
