Beside him, Astrid held her head against the window, eyes closed. In spite of the grime coating her, she seemed peaceful. For the briefest of instants, Bishop wondered what would happen if he leaned over and kissed her. He instantly buried the idea. Deep. There are certain things you just never do in front of Royal Marines.

As if reading his thoughts, Astrid opened her eyes, undid her seatbelt and glided across the back seat. She slid her arm underneath Bishop’s and lay her head against his chest. Closing her eyes once more, she remained mute. What was there to say? They knew where this was headed. And it wasn’t Rome.
