Another week passes and I can officially start changing her medication, so I do. Carefully so I don't cause a scene or make it known that I'm doing it to wean her off. It'll have to be a slow change. Today's appointment she just sits on the couch not saying anything.

Do I let her stay quiet or do I push her. I need answers, she needs me. If I push too hard, she will break.

"She's coming today." Sylvia smiles softly.

"Who?" I lean up on my chair eager for the answer.

"Sammie." Her voice is soft, almost unable to hear her as she keeps talking. "I can't wait to see her. I hope she still loves me."

Loves her? Who is this Sammie? The only Sammie in her records died. So why would she be coming here today?

"I'll see her after our session." She turns to look at me. "She's beautiful." She clutches her sweater in her hand, right above her heart.

I look at the timer and realize it's about to go off. No, I need more time. "Who is Sammie?" I ask, not caring if it pushes her this time.

She opens her mouth and my heart stops beating, ding. Sylvia stands up and walks towards the door, but this time, I don't let her leave, I grab her hand and pull her towards me, screw the fucking rules. "Who is Sammie?" I repeat.

She smiles at me, running a finger over my forehead, moving the hair that's fallen into my face. "She's my whole world." And with that, she's gone.
