How to enter Dates

Open existing working document, that is, “12 Kings Landing…” from the data files.

1) Press cell B5 and type 2/5/2018 and then click “Enter”.

2) Press cell B6 and type 2/5/18 and then click “Enter”. The date is quickly entered in B6 as 2/5/2018 and the B7 becomes the active cell.

3) Type 5/24 and proceed in clicking “Enter”. 24-May is entered in the cell. Press cell B7 and observe 5/24/20XX (XX would have to represent the current year the computer is working with) shown in the formula bar.

4) If the year shown in the formula bar isn’t 2018, press cell B7 and then click F2. Proceed to change the name to 2018 and then click “Enter”.

5) In cell B8, type 5/25/18 and then click “Enter”.

6) In cell B9, type May 26, 2018 and then click “Enter”. With this 26-May-18 shows in the cell. If you made an input or entered date in an entirely different format than is specified or you entered something in the cell and removed or deleted it, your worksheet might not show the results described. With this, the date format in column B would not be consistent. Make sure to apply a consistent format in the next section.

7) In cell B9, type 5/5/18 and click “Enter”. You’ll observe that the value changes but the format still remains the same.

8) Press the “Undo” button so as to return to the workbook.
