Chapter Nine

Sapphire

It’s been three days since Marc and I decided that we would date. I have spent a lot of time with all of the girls, and they all think it’s quite romantic. Marc has been busy with patrol duty for the last three nights, but we have been constantly texting.

When I roll over in bed, I see there is already a message waiting for me

Marc: Good morning little wolf. I hope you slept well.

I find myself smiling widely as I read his message. I kind of love the fact that he calls me little wolf.

Me: Good morning. I slept fine thank you. What are you doing today?

I watch the little bubbles on the screen indicating that he is typing a reply.

Marc: It’s my day off. I was hoping to take you out to lunch today.

I read the message three times before I answer him. I feel both terrified and excited at the same time when I reply to his message. This will be our first date and a chance for me to get to know the man Marc claims he has become.

Me: I think that could be fun. What are your plans? What should I wear?

Marc: Don’t worry about anything. But wear jeans and sneakers. I will pick you up at 12.

Butterflies erupt low in my belly. I haven’t been on a date in over a year. I used to date a wolf from a pack that we lived near for a while. Anthony was nice, and we had a lot of fun together. But he found his mate and I was happy for him. The two of us had always known that what we had wouldn’t last, but it was fun while it did.

This is my chance to get my mate. I could refuse Marc and hope that I am as lucky as Peyton, that I will get a chance at a second mate. But it’s so rare that I don’t know if I’m willing to take the chance just yet. Dating Marc will give me the opportunity to decide if I want to mate with him or refuse him.

I wonder what Marc’s idea of a date is. Will we be going into town? It doesn’t matter either way. This is his plan, so I will leave it up to him. Instead of stressing out, I decide to run a bath and pamper myself.

A lavender bath bomb and some bubbles are exactly what I need to keep my stress levels down as I wait for Marc to take me on our lunch date. Sinking deep into the warm water, I switch off my mind and just relax. The water caresses my skin and soothes me.
