All throughout lunch at the Atlanta Fish Market, I kept prodding Devin to tell me what the fuss was all about. The way Natalia spoke about it and watching her face light up when she mentioned it, it seemed like a big deal. Every time I asked, he side-stepped the question. It was getting to the point to where I was ready to let him suffer on his own and deal with the mess that Tina put him in.

His demeanor changed in an instant and he was subdued as he measured the words that he wanted to say to me. He flexed his fingers, closing his eyes and speaking under his breath. I took it as something that he really didn’t want to talk about, or he was uncomfortable, to say the least. “Lexi?”

“Yes, baby?”

“I assume that Talia told you that I have a special secret, a dream of mine that I’ve kept for a long time now.”

“She said something about it, but she didn’t say what it was exactly. She would only say that it would take some of the power away from Tina once you told me.” To be honest, I had no idea what he was about to tell me. The only thing I could do was listen and brace for whatever it was.

“I’m not gonna lie, Lexi, I’m taking a big risk even talking about this with you, but I feel like I can trust you.” He looked like a teenager about to reveal his first crush. “I don’t like feeling vulnerable, and telling you this feels like I’m letting you further than I think I’m ready to let you in.”

“D, you can trust me, tell me what it is. I am here with you, aren’t I?” I stared at him, trying to get him to understand. I took his hand in mine, hoping to make my point clear that I was not going anywhere. I’d never seen him so nervous about anything. It was sexy-cute to know that I was being let inside of such an intimate and vulnerable side to him.

I understood his hesitation, though. We’d known each other for only a matter of days. While I’d not yet given my body to him, it was only a matter of time before my heart and body would belong to him, and a gesture like what he was in the midst of doing was a sure-fire way to expedite that process.

“Okay, here goes.” Devin sat up in his chair to get himself together. “I want my own studio, state-of-the-art equipment, and not what RPK gives me. I want to be able to do work for RPK and other clients without having to worry about being on loan. I love RPK, I don’t want to leave them, but I also want to make my own money. I even want to get into producing and directing movies one day.”

“What’s so silly about that? It sounds like a wonderful idea!” I lit up. I was relieved that it wasn’t something else that would have thrown me for a loop.
