Chapter 54

Alcott, our great grandfather, backtracked to Florida and North Carolina, following clues that led him to New Hampshire—one of the last ports in the northeast. There, he came across a legend that was strange, alarming, and familiar.

It was said that a band of pirates kidnapped a child from another crew of pirates led by Captain Gold Throat and the English Royalty then rescued him. They called him Henry. He grew up hating pirates, but he later learned to hate royalty too.

It turned out that he wasn’t rescued from the pirates. Rather, it was the third case of kidnapping. The king and queen secretly lost their child to illness they didn’t want to publicize but claimed pirates abducted him. The abduction/rescue served two purposes: to reinforce the crown’s anti-piracy policies and replace the lost son.

Alcott also found his father.
