After 50–60min the valley widens and you feel less enclosed. At around 3hr 15min you come to a confluence with another river flowing from the NE along another wooded gorge. Keep L, following the L bank of the combined streams. Not long after, you pass some idyllic summer sheepfolds deep in the shade of the bankside planes.

After 3hr or more in the riverbed, you come to the now defunct works area for one of the tunnels for the Akhelóös river diversion project. Leave the riverbed and climb out on the R bank and up the track to the tarmac road by a fork (4hr 45min), where the road for Petrotó climbs steeply uphill R. It is a further 2km into Petrotó village (5hr 45min).
