What belongings can the trauma nurse give to the family following a traumatic death in the emergency room?

Only valuables

In any trauma death, whether dead on arrival or death in emergency room or hospital, the patient’s belongings, except for valuables, should not be returned to the family in case the death may require the medical examiner (Box 16.3).

HINT: The valuables returned should be accurately documented in the medical records.
