The research work in [20, 21] uses a different approach for TLM models of a design. It has a hybrid model in TLM. The methodology is implemented at different levels of abstraction. The methodology guarantees the control on the level of accuracy of each generated power model. It has two levels of granularity: coarse and fine. The coarse tuning is needed for the higher level of abstraction, in order to have reliable output results in reasonable amount of time. On the other hand, fine details are added to the lower level of abstraction. However, this hybrid model leads to several disadvantages. The methodology has sophisticated criteria to differentiate between coarse- and fine-tuning levels. This induces complexity in both power characterization process and TLM implementation of power models [22, 23].

The methodology in Chap. 4 adopts approximately timed power models. They are much faster in execution than [7, 8], and have reasonable accuracy in design modeling and simulation results as compared to [24].

In the next part, different approaches for power characterization are introduced, in order to create adequate power models with respect to accuracy and simulation time.
