The open house was lively with a lot of foot traffic coming through. Many people seemed interested, and they asked about the other properties being built. Katy’s presence drew in a lot of people too since they knew who she was. Alisha always seemed to forget her sister was famous. She could usually get away with being a normal person in Texas, but her fame had increased over the past year.

It also helped that Kai and Dash were there. They didn’t leave her, chatting with the people about Lucky as they came through. She liked being able to introduce the builder to the clients, and Dash liked hearing compliments about his design work. For once, she felt like she belonged to something. She felt like she fit in with them.

“Mom and Dad are here.” Katy gripped Alisha’s arm, whispering in her ear. “Please don’t make me greet them.”

Alisha glanced up just as her father spotted her from across the room. “I’ve got this.”

She walked over to her parents. “Hey, Dad.” She hugged him and kissed his cheek. “Hey, Mom. Thanks for coming.”

Her father glanced around the room. “It’s priced too high. I wouldn’t ever pay that much for it.”

So, it began.

“Well, you’re not buying a house.” Alisha smiled at one of the attendees. “You’re here to support me, remember?”

He glanced down at the floor. “There’s no carpet. Hardwood is cold. You won’t like that in the winter.”

“Hardwood is a great flooring option, Dad.” Alisha blew out a breath. “Please stop being critical for today. I really want to sell this house. Don’t push people away because you don’t like it.”

His lips formed a thin line. He was already mad at her. “Where’s your sister?”

Yep. He’d rather talk to Katy than her. “I don’t know. Just have fun. Look around. Be nice and help me sell this place.”

“Are you sure this is what you want to do with your life?” Her mom glanced around at a few colorful characters that walked through the house. “These people are into inappropriate things.”

Alisha took a deep breath. “I’m just trying to sell a house, Mom. Please help me by being supportive and not judgmental.”

A hand touched the small of her back, and Alisha jerked. Dash smiled at her and she pulled away.

“Mom, Dad, this is Dash. He designed the house.”

They glanced over at him. Dash laid on the charm by sticking out his hand. “It’s nice to meet you.”

Her father reluctantly took his hand. “Nice to meet you, too. You’re the guy Alisha works for?”

“Something like that.” Dash glanced over, smiling. “She’s the best at what she does. I’m happy she wanted to work with Crawford Construction.”

“Is that some kind of sex thing?” her mother asked. “Are you sleeping with him?”

Dash frowned. “Excuse me?”

“Ever since Katy got involved with those two, she and Alisha have made some bad choices regarding men in their lives.”

Alisha glanced away. “Excuse me. I need to go over here.”

She left them, doing her best to calm her anxiety down.
