Mila

Abigale has already introduced me to Sophia, who's a few months pregnant. She's the sweetest, totally smitten with Stasia.

Sophia holds Stasia snugly, her fingers wiggling as she playfully tickles her. Stasia's laughter rings out, a series of adorable giggles that seem to fill the room with joy. Sophia's efforts have Stasia laughing so hard that eventually, her laughter turns into breathless squeals, her tiny body wriggling.

Soon, Abigale returns, gracefully balancing a couple of glasses and a bottle of wine. Her smile is contagious as she extends a glass toward me, the deep red of the wine glinting in the soft light of the room.

"Wine?" she asks with a cheerful tone, as she pours herself a glass.

Beside her, Sophia has a glass of sparkling juice.

I hesitate for a moment, a gentle smile tugging at my lips.

"I don't really drink," I admit, my voice light but honest.

Abigale simply nods, her expression understanding and respectful.

The conversation shifts, and Abigale's laughter joins Sophia and Stasia's joy. She turns back to me, incredulity and frustration crossing her features.

"I can't believe her dad is back and that he would threaten you like that!" Abigale shakes her head.

My heart skips a beat at her words.

"He what?!" I shout, shock and worry coursing through me.

How could Alexei be back? Why hadn't Enzo mentioned anything? Did he know too?

Panic bubbles within me, and Abigale's concerned expression only heightens it.

"Oh, you didn't know? Oh god, I'm so sorry, I thought Enzo had told you!" Abigale's worry turns apologetic, and I can only remain silent, processing the revelation.

I just sit there, frozen.

I was secretly dating him, then he vanished right when I discovered I was pregnant. And now, out of nowhere, he reappears, allegedly with threats aimed at us. Questions swirl in my mind.

My world feels like it was unraveling.

Panic surges within me.

I sit there for a moment, silently grappling with the shock of it all. The weight of the situation feels heavy on me, and then, it all becomes too much.

"Enzo!" the scream tears from my lips.

Abigale looks alarmed, as if realizing she has shared something she shouldn't have. The tension in the room is heavy, silence settling over us.

Turning to Sophia, who holds Stasia in her arms, I force myself to find my voice amidst the chaos in my mind.

"Sophia, could you take Stasia to another room? Please?"

My words are shaky but Sophia nods silently.

She gently leads Stasia away, disappearing down the hallway.

With Stasia out of earshot, there is a brief moment of stillness before Enzo's voice echoes from the top of the stairs.

"Mila? What's wrong?"

"We need to talk!" I demand, my voice firm and urgent.

My heart races, and I feel a volcano of emotions threatening to spill over. The truth, the questions, and the fear all converged in that moment, I couldn't hold back any longer.

Enzo's footsteps echo on the stairs as he descends, his eyes locking onto Abigale. Her worried expression only seems to intensify in his gaze. Anger flickers in his eyes, but it’s contained, replaced by a sense of focus.
