Huberfelsen rock juts out like a rhino-horn. There are roughly hewn steps that lead to the top, which is secured by a fence. The rock is named to honour a local steward (1810) who was well respected for his service to the poor peasants.

Just below Huberfelsen a perfectly placed bench overlooks Prechtal, Elztal and the Vosges on the distant horizon. Follow the trail around the rock and rejoin the forest road by another picnic bench. Turn right to Hirzdobel , where Zweitälersteig and Westweg part company. After about 200m, just before running into another track at a bend, Westweg branches off onto a smaller path to the left. Shortly afterwards, Westweg and Querweg Lahr-Rottweil separate and Westweg forks to the right, to start climbing up towards Karlstein. At the top the trail passes a bench and continues to the right, up the hill. The trail meets another forestry track at a bend and joins it to the left.

Keep climbing up the hill. Eventually the trail bends to the left and meets another track, which it joins to the left for only about 20m before forking to the left onto a smaller path again for the final steep ascent to Karlstein . This turn can easily be missed!

Karlstein , a rocky outcrop with nice views to the east and south, is named after Carl Eugene of Württemberg – a Duke with megalomaniac tendencies, whose extravaganzas and ambitions for riches and glory nearly ruined his duchy and imposed severe hardships on its people. He is said to have visited the rock in 1770.
