Image Sharing Sites

Image sharing sites are a way for you to get some serious mileage out of your photos and other images. With the right strategy, you can maximize the ways in which potential clients and readers can find you through your posted images in the Social Web.

Image Sharing in Action

Flickr[1] is probably the most popular site on the Internet for sharing images. Flickr offers a place for you to share your images with others, as well as a platform for organizing and linking to your images.

Figures 8.1 and 8.2 show the Flickr account for Dalton Publishing. This opening screen shows the most recently uploaded images.

Along the right are the sets of images Dalton has created. A “set” is a collection of related images. You can create up to three sets with a free Flickr account, or unlimited sets with a “pro” account. A pro account runs $25 a year. Dalton creates a set for each of their books, for each significant event they host, and for a few miscellaneous collections of images—like one for all of their book covers. Sets can be further organized into “collections.” Figure 8.3 shows a set of images. You can reach this screen by clicking on any set.
