Chapter 20
Sloan
After we finished showering, Everett walked me to my bed and ushered me to sit down. He went back into the bathroom and retrieved a brush. He then sat on the bed behind me and started brushing out my long hair so tenderly that I thought he would never get the tangles out. We just sat in silence as he continued to brush through my blonde hair, causing goosebumps to prickle my skin from the sensation of him brushing my hair. I closed my eyes and allowed him to ease the tangles free from my blood-free hair.
âNo oneâs ever brushed my hair for me before.â I admitted to him. He stopped brushing for a moment, taking in my words, and slowly started to brush the last remaining tangles free. Placing the brush beside us, he spun my body around so we were facing each other. He pushed my hair behind my ear and leaned in to kiss my forehead, keeping his warm lips against my skin for a long moment.
âSloan, whoâs hurt you? Tell me everyone whoâs ever done you wrong, and I will take care of them myself.â He was serious, his words a promise as he spoke while still resting against my forehead.
I closed my eyes as flashes of my past soared through my brain, causing my body to tense against his touch. He sensed my pain as he pulled me into his embrace.
âDonât worry. Youâre safe with us now. No one will ever hurt you again,â he whispered in my ear, and it was at that moment I knew. I could trust him. I could trust all three of them.
After a long while, Everett pulled down my sheets, picked me up, and laid me in my bed before removing my towel and pulling up the comforter, covering my naked body. He leaned in and kissed me softly and said, âGet some rest.â He then turned and started toward my door. I sat straight up in protest.
âPlease, donât leave me tonight.â My words were pleading as he turned to look at me, still in his own towel that was draped so low that I was surprised it was still holding on. He gave me a small smile before turning back around and making his way to the other side of my bed.
âOf course, love.â He pulled off his towel, exposing his muscular body and climbed in next to me. I inched my way closer to him as he opened his arms to me. I lay against his chest, his arms holding me tight as our naked bodies pressed firmly together.
It didnât take long for me to fall into a deep sleep. The sound of his heart beating lulled me to sleep, while my body released the tension it had been holding. Everett stayed with me, making me feel safe, as his huge arms covered my small frame.
I awoke to the sound of people talking outside my bedroom door. I stretched my body, noticing Everett was gone. The spot on the bed where heâd been sleeping still felt warm, so he must have just left.
