FRIED POTATOES AND ONIONS
These fried potatoes are prepared the German way. The German name is Bratkartoffeln, but these potatoes are very similar to what we call home fries is the United States.
MAKES: 1 serving | PREP TIME: 5 minutes | COOK TIME: 10 minutes
INGREDIENTS
2 medium russet potatoes
2 tablespoons salted butter
¼ cup chopped white onion
salt and pepper
paprika
1. Peel the potatoes if desired. Cut in half lengthwise and slice ¼-inch half-moons. Pat the potatoes dry after slicing.
2. In a medium cast-iron skillet, add the butter, onions, and potatoes. Spread the potatoes in an even layer and allow them to cook over medium to medium-low heat for about 5 minutes before flipping. You want the heat low enough so that the potatoes and onions do not burn but get nice and brown.
3. Flip the potatoes to allow the other side to brown. Cook for about 5 minutes. Add more butter if needed.
4. Season to taste with salt, pepper, and paprika.
