The writer Bronwen Tate describes another self-talk method for dissolving overidentification: humility. She writes,
What became clear to me was the need for humility to let me be kind to myself. I think the key phrase that shifted my self-talk was âwho am I to never ____?â So, if I forget something or have a cringing moment or disappoint myself, I pause and say âOkay, Iâm human. Who am I to never forget anything?â or âWho am I to never make a mistake?â That reminder of humility allows me to let go and not obsess about the mistake.[18]
