The writer Bronwen Tate describes another self-talk method for dissolving overidentification: humility. She writes,

What became clear to me was the need for humility to let me be kind to myself. I think the key phrase that shifted my self-talk was “who am I to never ____?” So, if I forget something or have a cringing moment or disappoint myself, I pause and say “Okay, I’m human. Who am I to never forget anything?” or “Who am I to never make a mistake?” That reminder of humility allows me to let go and not obsess about the mistake.[18]
