After my shower, it takes me longer than usual to decide what to wear. I don't know why, but since Cam kissed me a few days ago, I am nervous to be around him, even though he stormed out of the cafe before, which annoyed at me. I spent over an hour in the shower, reliving the moments since I arrived here in Crossmackie, and it started to enrage me that Cam has been so hot and cold with me. It pissed me off so much that I washed my hair three times, clearly not paying attention.

I didn't break up with Tanner to come on the trip of a lifetime to be treated like shit by another asshole. So what if I find Cam to be the most attractive man I've ever seen? And, yeah, I want to kiss him again. But I'm fed up with his constant mood changes with me; this pull-and-push game is getting tiresome. If he's there tonight, I'll be polite but keep my distance. I stand in front of the mirror and check myself for what feels like the hundredth time.

I opted for my usual: my floral midi dress and a pair of flats. I put on light make-up and tie my hair in a high ponytail with a ribbon. I spray perfume on, grab my purse and head downstairs.

Mrs. MacNee is sitting in the living room with the TV blaring. She's watching one of her soap operas. She peers over her glasses at me and raises her eyebrows.

"Going somewhere nice, hen?" she gives me a curious look.

"Just to the pub to meet Rabbie and some friends," I say coyly.

I’m starting to feel overdressed in my floral dresses here.

"I’ve made some dinner if you would like some before you go: haggis and tatties," she says.

I try not to pull a face; I’m not in any rush to try the Scottish delicacy of meat stewed in a sheep’s stomach. My Grannie Jo would tell me stories of her mother feeding it to her when she was a young girl.

"Oh, I don't know. I'm sure we'll eat at the pub," I tell Mrs. MacNee.

Her face drops, and her small shoulders slump. "Not to worry then, hen. I just thought it would be nice to have a meal together because I've hardly seen you since you got here."

Fuck. Well, now I feel terrible.

"Ok, maybe just a small plate," I say as I sit down at the table in the corner of the living room.

I've never seen the small, frail Mrs. MacNee jump up from her armchair so quickly with a look of glee on her face. She rushes into her tiny kitchen, and I hear pots and pans clanking together. She appears with two plates of haggis and tatties. She places it down in front of me, and it doesn't look so bad, but I know the method of cooking, and that's what makes me feel queasy.

Mrs. MacNee sits down across from me. "Oh, hen, it's so nice to finally sit down with you.
