When I return to Hummingbird House, I’m shaken to the core. Madison, Tyler, and Erica wait for me on the beach. “What’s going on?” Erica asks.

I let out a disgusted grunted. “David is in the process of writing a new script..”

“The Evil Wife?”

“No, The Private Chef.” I explain what Chloe shared with me.

Erica’s face blanches. “That poor girl. Did she report him to the police?”

I shake my head no. “She’s scared of what it would do to her career.”

Erica’s jaw goes slack. “We have to get our hands on his script or his notes.” She shakes her head with dismay. “There’s just one problem. He’ll be home in a couple of hours. Let me think on this. Until then⁠—”

“Yeah, Mom,” says Tyler. “Act like everything is normal.”

“I’ll argue with him,” says Madison.

“I’ll pretend I’m drunk,” says Erica.

All eyes shoot to me. I squeeze my eyes shut. I’m supposed to flirt with him, make him think I want him. “I don’t know if I can do this.”

“You can,” says Erica. “You have to. Just put your mind in another place, like an out of body experience. Focus on the outcome, the final scene.”

I bite down on my bottom lip. My life has turned into a horror film.
