Symptoms of Insect Stings and Bites Normal

Localized inflammatory response and some minor swelling and redness around the area of the sting Abnormal – indicates an anaphylactic reaction

Hives (urticaria)

Flushing (paleness) of the skin

Angioedema, sudden painless swelling apparent on the face, hands, feet, etc. Symptoms may include the feeling of a lump in the throat – an indication of swelling. This can lead to wheezing and can affect breathing.

Gastrointestinal symptoms – vomiting, nausea, diarrhea and “gut” pain

Watering of the eyes, sneezing and rhinorrhea (a mucus discharge from the nose)

Seizures, hypotension (low blood pressure), faintness and vascular collapse
