The Camping Essentials

While there is much nature has to offer us, camping can be made all the more enjoyable with some essentials. These items are meant to enhance the experience of being outdoors, providing you with a basic level of comfort and convenience to help you make the most of your time.

What you bring will vary depending upon how you decide to camp. The basics are consistent across a range of camping styles, whether you hike in to a campsite with a backpack or drive via campervan.

1. BASIC COOKING AND EATING UTENSILS

Camp stove and fuel

Waterproof matches or lighter

Aluminum foil

Can opener

Castile soap and sponge/scrubber combo (if packing light, cut a common kitchen sponge in half)

Trash bag, recycling bag, compost bag

Water purifier (if not staying at a campsite)

Chamois or rag

Cookset: Cup(s)

Plate(s) (wood, plastic, stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium are all options)

Two pots

Two pans

Forks/sporks/knife (ensure the cutlery will not damage your plates or your pots and pans; consider high-quality plastic or bamboo)

Potholder and/or small silicone mitt

Large and small sharp knives
