Dutton scanned the doctor’s complete biography, skimming through most of the lengthy history that began with Potter as a child genius…brilliant student…innovative mind. Noncorp CARE units originated from Potter’s paradigm—a framework for independent robotic diagnosis and treatment. Dutton could see that the man probably had few rivals in creating robotic brain surgery.

Dutton hated geniuses. They always seemed so indispensable. But he knew better. He could get rid of every one of them, and there would always be another can’t-do-without-wonder to fill the slot.

On the surface, the doctor appeared to be a genuine Corporit star, a rare person who totally submerged all his energies into his work. It was the only real passion that Dutton uncovered about Potter as he plundered the history banks of the computer files.

And buying his time from Robotics had been a good investment for Medi-Prog. Too bad any replacement would cost Dutton’s corporation large sums of extra money. The board wouldn’t be tolerant of anything that hurt profits.

I need to prove, without a doubt, that Potter is a traitor.

Reading the file suggested there definitely was something about Potter that raised a pink, if not red, flag. The Hidalga connection seemed to be the greatest weakness at present. Was Potter helping Zoe Hidalga, the missing DP?

Maybe it’s time for everyone to stop being blinded by Potter’s genius and put some real surveillance on our genius friend, see if it produces anything to explain why I received a computer alert that Potter may have strayed from the straight and narrow. Is our revered robotics doctor guilty of something more serious than iffy relationships?

He picked up his private communicator and punched in a familiar and often used number.
