How Do We Defeat Big Pharma Once and For All?
Our CEO Foster Coulson, who isnât known for his hesitancy, made me VP of Pharmacy at TWC in what felt like a split second. Our leader is, if nothing else, deeply intuitive and he trusts his friends. So today, after a dark, unsettled, and tumultuous fifteen years, I get to live my vision of creating freedom pharmacies. Although big chains like CVS and Walgreens are trying to squash independent pharmacies like the two thousand we located while I worked with the previous organization, my job is to support them.
You may be asking the obvious question: âis Big Pharma too big to fail?â
In a year, absolutely yes. But gradually, residually chipped away at over time
This effort is going to be grassroots. People have to stop spending money at the Big Pharma locations, paying into the pockets of the insurance companies.
When you pay your insurance, youâre paying Big Pharma. If you can afford to pay cash to break free of Big Pharmaâs grip; thatâs one place to start.
Support independent pharmacies. When a patient walks into a CVS pharmacy with Caremark insurance, CVS can, in many instances, be reimbursed ten times the amount the independent pharmacy would. In my time with independent pharmacies, there were times we had to turn patients away because to fill a prescription we would lose three hundred dollars. We would have to send them to the chains.
Big Pharma has tentacles in everything. More accurately, itâs the leviathan. Without unity, we wonât slay the beast.
