The next morning, Desmond arrived at the office with a spring in his step. Ivy’s intense lovemaking had not only surprised him but revived him. For the past several months, work had consumed him. Dalliances with the opposite sex had been rare. Until that powerful orgasm, he hadn’t realized how much he’d missed having regular good loving as a part of his life. Was totally floored by how much he’d enjoyed it with Ivy. He never would have guessed beneath those casual clothes and conservative nature was a tigress waiting to be unleashed. He hoped she had no regrets about what happened last night. Because already he was thinking of and hoping for a next time.

He checked his watch, then reached for his cell phone. It was early but he went ahead and sent a text. Good morning.

For several long moments, there was no answer. When it came the response was short and curt. Morning.

Desmond reached for his mug of coffee and leaned back in his chair. What did that one-word response mean? Was she happy, embarrassed, wallowing in morning-after guilt? Never one to shy away from a potential problem or challenge, he reached again for his phone. You okay?

This time the response was almost immediate.

Can we talk later? Tending to Desiree.

Okay, beautiful. Have a wonderful day.

A minute passed. Five. Ten. No answer. Desmond willed himself to focus on work but his mind had other plans. As he scrolled through his emails and checked text messages, he continued to replay last evening. How amazing Ivy looked as she stepped into the Point du Sable Country Club, her transformation nearly taking his breath away. How her quiet nature fit his extroverted one, and how while clearly not a part of the upper echelon crowd, she held her own in the environment, even against barracudas like Brittany Smith.

But it’s what happened after the concert that was seared in his mind. Her body fit his perfectly and, man, how right her plump ass felt in his palms. Making love to her on a regular basis would be incredible. Of that, he had no doubt. From the way she responded to his oral talents, she’d clearly not been thoroughly loved. She wasn’t worldly like Penelope and women like her. There was something akin to innocence that was not only refreshing but attractive. A naivete that made him want to protect her and be the only one invited into her bed. He wanted to be solely responsible for lighting her body on fire. After last night, the marriage of convenience idea was even more attractive. But was it fair to ask this of someone like Ivy? A woman still suffering from losing her fiancé, and one clearly not overly experienced in love? With the sound of Ivy’s obvious pleasure still ringing, Desmond found himself second-guessing the wisdom of making such a drastic move. His parents had true love and a thriving marriage, the kind of relationship he eventually wanted. Someday, a moment way off in the future.
