Chapter 15

Theo

“So, what’s it been like, living with La Princesa?” Carlos asks, taking a swig of his fancy craft beer.

“It’s been cool. She seems to be opening up. I’m glad she is finally feeling better.” I sip on my one glass of Garrison whiskey, savoring the smoky flavor on my tongue.

“I can’t believe you landed that one, Papi. I mean, you are incredibly hot, no doubt, but she is on a different level, man.”

“Don’t I fucking know it. The girl is a smoke show.” I say proudly.

“She is really pretty. She just doesn’t seem your type. So serious.”

“Not with me. She is funny as hell and doesn’t annoy me like most girls. She can hold an intelligent conversation, and it’s a breath of fresh air to have to work for her attention.”

“She has got you sprung, Papi.” He says with a hearty laugh. “I have never seen you like this!”

“No seriously! The best part is, I like spending time with her. This is the longest relationship I have ever had and it doesn’t even feel like it.”

“I mean, you’re still in the guest room, right? Is that really a relationship?” He teases with a raised brow, cutting me deep.

“She'll come around. The tension is high, my friend.” I say, trying to assure myself as well as him, as my belly flops at the memory of what almost slipped out of my mouth after movie night. “I think I love her.”

He chokes on his beer with wide, shocked eyes before gulping it down.

“What?! I know you like this girl a lot, but love? You can’t be serious, Theo.”

I shrug, unsure myself. I’ve never felt what I did in that moment. She was completely open and free and so fucking beautiful. Having her under me, stripped of her shield of power suits and her business face - in just pajamas and a full-on belly laugh, I felt my heart pound just from looking at her, and the words almost slipped out.

“I know, it’s fucking crazy, we have been dating for what – 3 weeks?”

“Look, I’m not gonna betray her confidence, but it’s safe to say that she doesn’t seem to think you two are dating, Bro. I don’t think she believes you are serious.”

“That’s bullshit. That girl is mine.” I insist, confused how she could think that. I am doing everything I can to see that she is happy and taken care of. How can she think I’m not serious?

“Good luck convincing her of that. She’s a tough nut to crack.” He warns.

“I know. Besides, I’m still processing, I don’t want to say anything like that until I am positive and the time is right.”

“Where is she tonight, anyways? I’m surprised you left her side to hang out with little ‘ol me.”

“At a girl’s night again. Apparently, she has some old friends she goes out with on occasion.”

“Ah, I see. No wonder you stooped to hanging with me for the night. Better than being the lonely bastard pining at home for her.” He jokes.
