KIM’S STORY

Before: My incentive to get serious about my weight problem began when I started the Maker’s Diet. At the time, I was at my heaviest weight ever.

Sure, I was active in high school and college, but after hitting my mid-thirties, it was harder to stay in shape, even though I was a children’s pastor and keeping up with kids, but that was just on Sunday mornings. On the eating side, I didn’t snack a lot, and I drank lots of water. I usually ate two big meals a day, skipping breakfast. I guess you could say my life was stressful. I moved to South Florida from Tennessee a few years ago not knowing anyone, so there were some adjustments to be made.

Grappling with all the adjustments had an effect on my mental and emotional health, which I believe has affected my physical health. I do see how stress affects your weight. The only thing I felt like I had going for me was my spiritual health, which the enemy tried to use against me during difficult times.

I didn’t feel good about my appearance and had learned to hide my weight very well. Plus, I was constantly tired and usually had to push myself to work out.

Nonetheless, I committed myself to the forty days of the Maker’s Diet. My goal was that this health plan would jump-start my metabolism, give me more energy, and change my lifestyle of eating habits. I didn’t want this to be a forty-day fad and then go back to the “good ol’ days.”

I was ready to start feeling good about myself again and having a body—a temple—to reflect a healthy image. I desired balance in the areas of physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health.

After: Wow! What an unbelievable forty days! Words can only briefly touch on how I feel. As stated in my “before” essay, I was not liking the way my body looked, and that affected many areas in my life. But I can definitely say today that I feel like a new person. I totally committed to this plan and faithfully worked out three times a week. I saw and felt a significant difference.

My overall attitude became healthier as well. I was determined to stick with the Maker’s Diet even through the detox and occasional cravings for “bad” foods weren’t easy. I gave up all caffeine and drank only water. I ate the foods that were recommended and came up with some new recipes. I didn’t have to spend much time thinking about the foods to eat and preparing them during the forty-day health experience.

Living the Maker’s Diet became part of my daily ritual—a habit. My whole being—spiritual, mental, physical, and emotional—became healthier and happier. The result was an in-shape Kim that I used to know years ago.
