âYou told me, the next time, I had to ask for what I want,â she said, as she ripped off her gown and shift. âSo, Iâm asking Kiss me, Lucky.â
âMelissa â¦â he protested. âAre you sure? I feel like weâre standing on thin ice without skates.â
âWe have skates. I feel the blade,â she whispered, âand itâs poking against me.â
âThatâs not a skate you feel, darlinâ. Itâs part of me and if you donât stop, itâs going somewhere you donât want me to go. Think about what youâre doing.â
âI have. Youâre my husband. If you donât want to kiss me, Iâll kiss you.â She stood on her tiptoes, put her hands around his neck and forced him down so that she could nibble on his chin.
He moaned and forced himself to pull away. âYou donât know what youâre doing. This is not a good idea.â
âThere are a lot of things I donât know. I donât know why you didnât dance with me first? Iâm your wife.â
âHave you ever tried to change the Widow Sweeneyâs mind?â
In the back recesses of her mind, Melissa remembered the incident of the wedding dress. âYes. But then you danced with Sable. Was she the one who kissed you that day in town? She is. I know it.â
Her kisses were growing more insistent. âYes,â Lucky managed to say, âbut she only kissed me on the cheek. It was to thank me.â
âThank you for what?â
âSaving her from Bart.â
âSo, dancing with her was your way of saying âyouâre welcomeâ?â She worked her away across Luckyâs mouth, tugging at his upper lip. âShe wasnât passionate? You didnât feel lust for her?â
âNo. I didnât feel lust for her.â He was having a hard time resisting her. âMelissa, why are you doing this?â
âI canât say for sure that what I feel is passion. Maybe Iâm just overheated. I think youâd better do something.â
âMelissa, I think youâve had too much lemonade. Obviously something alcoholic was added. You donât know what youâre doing.â
âOh, but I do. I really, really do. Why donât you want me, Lucky? I thought strong, worldly men like you went after any available woman. Iâm available. Is there something wrong with me?â
Not want her? There was no way she could possibly understand how much he wanted her. He ached with want. He was amazed by her honesty. No woman had been so open with him. âNo,â he whispered, âthereâs nothing wrong with you, nothing at all, except brothers and sisters donât act like this.â
âBut weâre not brother and sister, are we?â she asked, as she slid one hand between them and touched the part of him that took over his mind, the part of him that felt as if it would explode, the part of him that refused to take directions.
âIs it always like this?â she asked as she clasped him tightly, wanting to be closer, wanting to quell the insistent twitching between her legs. Wanting? She didnât know what, only that if she didnât get it, she would die. âSwollen, I mean.
