The media are the ones who are spreading the flu virus. Not in the sense that they literally go out and spread the virus, but that they are giving people the flu because people buy into the idea that they already have it, so any symptom they have they attribute to the flu.

It’s the attribution that’s important. For example, if a person’s immune system heals them, they attribute that healing to the doctor. If they get worse, they attribute that to their immune system. It’s all about attribution. So if you have someone attributing any little symptom—a sneeze, a sniffle, a headache—to the flu, then what would have been just a normal 5-minute headache or a one-day tummy virus six months ago, is now the flu!
