Dave Glenn kept a journal of the expedition. Perhaps realizing that, because of his father’s fame, his journal might someday be found in a library, Dave referred to his father throughout as “Glenn.”75

Wolper sold the show to ABC as a one-hour documentary, set to air January 11, 1968. The producer subsequently lost his sponsor before he could proceed with episode two, about Genghis Khan.76

For Glenn, there would be no TV series, but the year 1968 would carve a jagged path through American history that would feel as unreal as any television production. For Glenn personally, devotion to a friend would engulf him in new ideas and fresh experiences. A year of triumph and tribulations would change his life and set a new course for his future.
