CHAPTER NINE

HE TOOK HER mouth so fast he tasted his name on her lips.

No, that was the taste of Lola. Once experienced, impossible to forget.

The sweet tang had haunted him.

How often had he woken from fitful sleep to the memory of her flavour on his tongue? Hungering for the full banquet of her luscious body instead of a mere taste?

He hauled her close, softness against hard, needy flesh, and felt the vibrations as his last reserves of caution crashed down. Her lips were soft, her mouth accommodating yet demanding, everything he remembered and so much more.

A shudder shot from his nape, down between his shoulder blades to the soles of his feet. Her smoky, seductive voice still echoed in his ears.

She wanted him.

The way she slid up against him, as if trying to meld herself to his erection, was better than any fantasy. Stars exploded at the corners of his vision but putting any distance between them was impossible.

One hand cradling her skull, Niall leaned into the kiss, bending her backwards so she clung. His might be the dominant position but there was nothing submissive about Lola. She devoured him with a hungry fervour that catapulted his need higher. And that low humming sound in the back of her throat—part approval, part demand—ignited his blood like a flame touching oil.

The kiss deepened, became a mating of mouths, mirroring the sex act they both needed so desperately.

Niall couldn’t remember a kiss ever being like this—the most erotic foreplay. And the most devastating.

His chest cramped as he lost oxygen and forgot to breathe in more.

Frantic to touch, he dropped his hand from Lola’s waist to mould her buttock, pulling her in even harder. She circled her pelvis against him and he froze, clawing at the ragged remnants of his restraint.

‘Wait,’ he groaned. ‘Stop.’

Clamping her with both hands now, he held her still. One more undulation and she’d undo him. Heart hammering, he eased away just enough to suck in air.

‘But I want—’

Another time he might have triumphed at the sulky pout in her voice, and on her kiss-swollen mouth. Now all he could do was pray he didn’t embarrass himself.

‘I know, sweetheart. Me too. But give me a moment.’

Another first. He’d never teetered on the edge of climax after just a kiss, and fully clothed at that.

He pressed a kiss to her neck, to that fragrant curve, and felt her shiver as she tilted her head to give him better access.

Niall slid his hands possessively and frowned. He felt only taut curves and slippery silk but no underwear.

Snapping open eyes he hadn’t realised he’d closed, he looked beyond her to the full-length mirror on the opposite wall of the entry. Saw his hands on the shimmery red dress, hauling it higher and higher until it was no longer silk he touched but even softer flesh. Bare, pale flesh bisected by the tiniest line of dark red lace.

G-strings were nothing new. Once a lover had come to him wearing nothing but a raincoat and crotchless knickers.
